Internships in words!

Nothing beats Industrial Placements or “Internships”

in preparing students for real life work experience!

Industry placement or “internships” are an integral part of the curriculum in all Alpine Center’s programmes of study.  Students are required to complete two industry placements of 20 weeks each in order to graduate with a Swiss Diploma.

Although students have the opportunity to put theory into practice during the academic year at the hotel school, industry placements provide students with the opportunity to gain more “hands-on” experience with real guests in luxury hotels, restaurants, travel agencies, spas and events companies.

Industrial placements are an excellent way of building on the knowledge and skills gained during their first and second years of the curriculum.

Industrial placements also enable the students to establish an industry network in leading hotel organizations or related establishments around the world.  Alpine’s dynamic Career & Placement Director counsels students at the beginning of the year and provides them with workshops to prepare them for interviews and the work experience. Students have the option to perform their industry placements all over the world. This allows them to experience foreign cultures and acquire knowledge of international hospitality management.

Attached is an impressive list of this year’s placements in a range of countries including  Greece, Vietnam,  USA, Hong Kong, Thailand, Mauritius, Maldives, Germany, France, Spain, Ireland, Jordan, Dubai.

During the placement, students complete a logbook and write two reports connected to their place of work and demonstrating problem solving skills by identifying a problem in their workplace and suggesting a solution.   These reports provide additional information for placement mentors and lecturers on trends and developments in the industry which can be shared in the classroom.

Many students use their industry placements as a strategic avenue to become employed by the company of their choice following their graduation!

Take advantage of the many job opportunities on cruise ships!

Vanessa Koustas, the Alpine graduate who studied the Diploma in Hotel Management, currently works on the Paul Gaugin Cruise Ship.

Vanessa KoustasVanessa Koustas has this to say about her exciting experience on M/S Paul Gauguin 5 star cruise ship sailing in the French Polynesia:

“I have been working on a cruise ship for over a year now as an International Hostess but started at the Reception desk of Paul Gauguin travelling in French Polynesia.

It is really a great job, hard at the beginning but nothing more rewarding than seeing guests come back to thank me for the services I was able to provide to them. I am truly motivated working on this cruise ship because as an employee you are appreciated by your superiors especially when you demonstrate a professional attitude which was instilled in me by Alpine Center.  This is the workplace where I see the results of a superior Swiss education! I see opportunities of reaching higher positions, but also different ones. The pay is also very good.

I really hope many new students will apply for the BA(Hons) International Hospitality & Tourism Management at City Unity College and truly encourage everyone to try at least once this unique experience of working on board a 5 star cruise ship!”

e-Learning Hospitality Management

Are you looking for professional development courses to fit your busy lifestyle?
Do you wish you could “attend” class while sitting in a park, on the beach, in your living room or at the local coffee shop?
Our e-Learning Hospitality Management courses give you the flexibility you need, and the quality you deserve!

The American Hotel & Lodging Educational Institute offers a rich portfolio of Distance Learning courses in Hospitality Management almost all of which are now offered via e-learning! Textbooks will be on line unless you wish to purchase them in addition.

Basically, the e-learning method is very user friendly, allows you to 'study' at your own time, practice with quizzes before you take the final exam, and communicate with your tutors when you need clarifications! Available learning resources include various interactive features such as video, key terms, web links, case studies, and exhibits.

Under the guidance of your facilitators you may enroll on one course, or a 5-Course Certificate of Specialization (Rooms Division, Food & Beverage, Human Resources, Accounting, Marketing & Sales, Accounting & Finance, Club Management, and International Hotel Management).  In this case you take 5 courses in the specialization of your choice.
Alternatively you may opt to take 8 courses that will lead to the Certificate in Hospitality Operations, or 12 courses that lead to theHospitality Management Diploma or the 12 course Diploma in Food & Beverage Management.
We are pleased to offer you a special fee per course which is 290 Euro and that includes the textbook or access to the virtual learning environment, the tutorials you receive from the facilitators,  the administering of the final exam, and the issuance of the Certificates and final Diploma.
If you are interested in enrolling please contact Alpine Center and ask for the application form where you may indicate the course(s) of your preference and return for processing. Once we receive the application form and full payment we will give you access to the virtual learning environment with further instructions on how to contact your tutors.
Once you are connected to the virtual learning environment,  you have up to 4 months to complete studying a course and once you are ready for the test, you will get in touch with us and we will organize for you to take the test online.  The test is compiled of 100 multiple-choice questions and you will need to score 70% in order to pass it. Upon successful completion of the test you will receive a Certificate on each course or the appropriate Diploma (based on your chosen curriculum).
More details about the single courses, the 5 courses specialization, the 8 courses Operations Certificate and the 12 courses Hospitality Management Diploma could be found on the Alpine Center web site.
