We are so Proud of our Graduates!

What could be better than that? A letter of Kostas Kyriazis, our graduate, to the President of Alpine Center, Sybil Hofmann:

Dear Sybil,
I hope you are well, I am e-mailing you to keep you updated, as usual, with my career move.
At the end of November I decided to leave Starbucks, having a very nice offer in Cyprus from the biggest F&B company PHC*.
The company is bringing the U.K. caffe Nero concept in Cyprus and they wanted someone to have the training in London be the leader of all openings (4 by the end of july) and be the Operations Manager for Cyprus, in charge for all the growth of the brand.
I was really fascinated, already knew the owner, and went for 2 months in London and now back in Cyprus organizing the whole thing.

I am really excited they really liked me both in Cyprus and everyone in London.
I already keep you update cause soon we will have job openings like store managers, etc.

Looking forward hearing from you soon.
Once more thank you for all the constant help and support.

Best regards,
Kostas

Best wishes for continued success and happiness, Kostas!

We are so proud of our graduates, not only for their outstanding career development, but also for the solidarity among them. It is being proved, graduate by graduate, that the Alpine Center Builds both Character and Careers.

Participants’ Testimonials:

“I would like to thank you for inviting me to the Saturday workshop. Everything was very well organized and Mr. Paschopoulos was an excellent speaker. I really enjoyed it and I enriched my knowledge in a very useful way”. Eve

“Mr. Paschopoulos was well organized and presented the material in a coherent way. I would like to participate again in another of his seminars”. John
“I would like to thank Alpine Center, City Unity College and Mr. Paschopoulos for the very interesting seminar. It was very enlightening. By the dialogue with the rest of the participants as well as by the given examples, I have acquired different perspectives and have heard many ideas related to the tourist industry at a business level”. Maria

“I found the seminar very interesting. I had participated in a similar seminar of Mr. Arsenis in the past, which was more detailed as it involved more hours. Nevertheless, I found it very useful to refresh my memory by attending it and get an update on the latest trends. Mr. Arsenis seems to know his subject and can teach it in a pleasant and vivid way with examples. Despite the fact that I will be in Crete from March to October, please inform me in case another workshop is organized!” Polydoros
“My personal thanks for the excellent presentation. I have the pleasure to inform you that I have already tried to apply whatever you told us, other alone and other with the assistance of my graphic-web designer. I wish you a big success to all of your seminars!” Danai

“A well structured seminar from a remarkable presenter. In less than 4 hours we had a complete picture and focused information on the issue, while we had our questions answered and learned by the questioning of the other participants from the tourist industry”. Anna

Testimonial *Hotel Management

Michalis (Mike) Mamais, Graduate of Alpine Center in Hotel Management, with the assistance of Ramon Amor,  lecturer and owner of Jobonship, started working with Disney Cruise Line beginning of January.

We discussed with Mike who was trilled to share his new working experience with the Alpine community.

"It is so nice here. My position is Assistant Dining Room Server. It is a unique experience. The colleagues, my superiors, even the customers are so different in a perfect way! The photo that you see below with Goofy is from my first day at work.

Here you may see a picture of me and my colleagues 30 days later, with our Ears. 'Earning our Ears' is a fabulous Disney tradition!

It is amazing! We are busy with a lot of work but we don't quite understand it. We have so  much fun! We travel along the Western Caribbean (Mexico, Cozumel, Costa Maya, Key West and the private island of Disney, Castaway Cay). As of June, we will be also travelling to Spain, Greece and Turkey. The Cruise Ship is fantastic and the places we visit like paradise.

That's a statue of Mickey Mouse from inside the ship I work. Every ship of the Disney Cruise Line has a different statue. Everybody feels like a child here. Even the older people at the 'Pirates Night' buy costumes and dress up like pirates".

Mike continues his fantastic journey and he knows that this is only the beginning. The future looks even brighter ahead! Good luck Mike!

5th Golden Cap Awards

January 23-27, 2013
Antalya, Turkey

In January of 2013 Alpine Center, the department of Hotel Management and Tourism of City Unity College, was invited to participate in the 5th Golden Cap Awards, an event which is sponsored annually by the Turkish Chef’s Federation in Antalya, Turkey. The city, with a population of about 1 million, is located on the southern coast of Turkey and is considered to be the Turkish “Riviera” due to its popularity as a tourist destination and its upscale hospitality facilities. The city alone hosts 56 luxury 5-star hotels overlooking, or in close vicinity of, the Mediterranean Sea.

Senior lecturer and chef instructor Georgia Kofinas represented Alpine Center this year serving on the panel of judges for the Golden Caps Awards chef’s competition which was held at the city’s vast exhibition center. Mrs. Kofinas was one of the four international judges on the panel of twenty members. The other three were from France, the United States, and Italy. There were over 1,000 competitors during the course of three days with the various categories of presentations such as cold plates and hors’ de oeuvres, vegetable carving, chocolate, food art, creative Turkish cuisine and haute cuisine gourmet dishes. The competition was divided into two categories:  chef students from the various culinary arts schools of the region and professional chefs from the area’s hotel restaurants.

The awards ceremony was held at the 5-star Marmara Hotel where the local authorities and members of the Turkish Chef’s Federation presented the winners of the competition with their trophies and honorary ribbons. The four international judges also received honorary ribbons and plaques for their participation in the event. The ceremony ended with an elegant dinner and live classical Turkish music.
